The Technical Brief

Fabricate, deliver, and erect a 65-tonne structural steel sorting mezzanine and 5-tonne overhead hoist runway beam above active ground sorting lines.

Site & Operating Constraints

Zero disruption permitted to daytime automated package sortation. All crane lifts and bolted connections had to be executed, torqued, and cleared before 05:00 each morning.

Execution Methodology & Works Delivered

  • Fabricated S355JR structural columns, beams, and cold-formed joists in our Peliyagoda fabrication yard
  • Utilized mobile spider cranes and electric boom lifts fitted with non-marking tires for indoor night erection
  • Fastened all connections with Grade 8.8 structural bolts tightened to calibrated torque logs
  • Installed safety interlocked swing gates, kickplates, and industrial mesh decking
  • Performed ultrasonic weld testing (UT) on all moment splice joints

Verified Outcome

Completed on schedule with zero daytime fulfillment interruptions and 100% structural engineer sign-off upon load deflection testing.
